ACW 2014 Picnic – August 9th @ 2pm

Summer is here and the weather is gorgeous! Perfect weather for a picnic at the park, right? Well, here it comes!

ACW would like to invite you all to a picnic at Saltwater State Park!

Where exactly in Saltwater Park will we be? *** Beach Point ***
Where is that? between Saltwater Cafe, the parking area, and the volleyball/jungle gym area.

What’s for lunch? Arab Style BBQ (Mashawi – Beef, lamb, & Chicken & it’s all Halal), Falefels for the vegetarians, and all the related sides (Hummus, Baba Ghannouj, Side salads, Rice, bread ..etc).

Hurry up and purchase your tickets to reserve your spot! This event will be capped at 60 people since that’s that’s the maximum Beach Point can accommodate.

First Annual Arab Summer Festival and Outdoor Movie Night – August 15th, 6:30pm at Marymoor Park

The Arab Center of Washington in partnership with Bellevue College Arabic Culture Student Association are hosting a unique event that will showcase one of the classic musicals of Arabic cinema: “Days and Nights”, featuring the legendary Egyptian actor and singer Abdel Halim Hafez. Please join us for a dazzling evening of entertainment at scenic Marymoor Park. This family-friendly, community event will include outdoor activities starting at 6:30pm followed by the film screening at 8:30 pm. Volunteers will provide English transliterations of the film’s popular songs for a sing-a-long. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, low-backed chairs, and their best singing voices. “Days and Nights” is a romantic musical is considered to be a masterpiece of Egyptian cinema, offering a lush score by Mohamed Abdel Wahab and beautifully performed by Abdel Halim Hafez. The local community is invited to seize this rare opportunity to view a classic film rarely seen by Western audiences on the big screen. Tickets are available at: $10 per person, Kids 12 and under are free. Tickets purchased in advance come with 5 free tickets that can be used for snacks and activities. Tickets for the movie and activities will be available for purchase at the event.

The Arab World is the ancestral home to many Shoreline residents. Come learn more about this fascinating region of the world and it’s many cultures, enjoy Arab hospitality and meet new neighbors. Hosted by the Arab Center of Washington, this event is FREE!

Rattlesnake Hike and Picnic/Potluck at the Lake – June 1st

Summer is here! Let’s go out and enjoy nature!

Rattlesnake Ridge is a fairly moderate hike with some beautiful viewpoints along the way. We’ll hangout and relax at the lake afterwards.

The Plan:
– Meet at Eastgate Park and Ride at 10 am and head to Rattlesnake Ridge trailhead
– Hike to the peak and back down
– have a picnic at the lake

If it’s warm enough that day, you might want to get your swimwear!

Directions to Rattlesnake Ridge:
Take I-90 east and get off on Exit 32 (436th Avenue SE) just past the exits to North Bend. Take a right off of the exit, heading south on 436th Ave SE which turns into Cedar Falls Road. Travel about three miles and follow the signs posted for Rattlesnake Lake.

Arab Brunch & Dabke – April 12

How long has it been since you’ve had really good fool mudammas (fava beans) & baleela? Craving fresh mana2eesh, spinach pies, or meat pies (sfeeha)? And how about we end this with Kunafa for dessert?

You know, an Arab gathering is not complete without fun music. So, why no let us teach you the basic steps of dabke, or better yet, come teach us your moves!

Arab Festival Planning Meeting – March 22 – Lake City Way Public Library

We can’t do this alone! We would like to encourage you all to participate in some way to help make this next festival amazing!

We are starting with an open-to-all Festival Planning Meeting on March 22nd from 10am-12:30pm at the Lake City Way Public Library (12501 28th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125) in their meeting room on the first floor.

The plan for the meeting is FOR THE FIRST HALF to get your input/feedback regarding what you would like to see at the next festival, to gather information regarding resources and connections you may have, and FOR THE SECOND HALF to start the formation of the festival committees (volunteer, layout, marketing/publicity, fundraising, programming) and do some initial planning.

Feel free to attend part or all of this meeting. There will be some light refreshments available in the beginning (hopefully mana’eesh from Goodies).

Arab Ice Breaker – February 23rd – Mercer Island

We’ve planned a fun evening filled with ice-breaker activities, board games, music, coffee, tea, drinks, and food! This event is free, so all you have to do is show up, meet people, and enjoy your time!

Winter Potluck – January 26th – Kent, WA

It’s time to gather again and share the start of a new year. You’ll have a chance to meet  new board members. Please join us on January 26th at the Kent Library at 212 2nd Ave N, Kent, WA 98032. The phone number there is (253) 859-3330 if you need directions. Once you come through the main entrance, go to the right and you’ll see the large meeting room behind the glass wall.

Bring a food dish to share with 6-8 servings. It was great last time when people posted what they planned to bring. We’ll start at 1:45 pm (you can come at 1:30 to help set up if you like) and end around 4:30pm, as the Library closes at 5pm.
